In the same week, the United States did something extremely divisive.
On one hand, the Trump administration approved Iranian President Raeisi's entry into New York to attend the UN General Assembly. Keep in mind, the US and Iran are still technically at war.
On the other hand, Trump himself said — "I have a major decision to make" regarding whether to restart a large-scale military strike on Iran.
On Tuesday, during the UNGA, he plans to meet with leaders from six Gulf countries: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman.
Handing out visas with one hand, sharpening knives with the other.
Tell me, is this diplomacy or a setup?
What’s even more painful: In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital, air defense alarms sounded again after months, twice in a row. Thick smoke rose near King Khalid International Airport.
The bombs haven’t even fallen yet, but the alarms are already ringing.
For the crypto market, the impact is layered:
Short term, crypto can’t hold up.
The Fed just completed its first rate hike since 2023, pushing rates to 3.75%-4.00%, with the dot plot showing another hike before year-end. The 10-year US Treasury yield has broken 5%, hitting a nearly 20-year high.
Where is the money flowing? The dollar index rose 1.2% this week, nearing a seven-week high. Gold climbed above $4400.
What about BTC? Last week it fell below 78,000, down 1% for the week. On August 31, the day of the US airstrike, $180 million in liquidations occurred across the network within an hour, with longs accounting for $173 million.
When the geopolitical bomb drops, crypto kneels first.
Mid-term, oil prices are the real time bomb.
Brent crude broke $100, surging to $109 at one point. JPMorgan’s commodity chief said bluntly — "Since the Iran conflict broke out, we have no baseline view for the first time. We have no idea how to model the outcome."
Every million barrels of supply disruption pushes oil prices up $4. The market is pricing in the risk of an additional 4 million barrels/day loss.
Oil over $100 → inflation expectations rise → Fed forced to stay hawkish → rates "higher for longer" → crypto continues to be pressured.
Every link in this chain is tightening.
Long term, BTC is the real home field.
The greater the global geopolitical uncertainty, the stronger the "non-sovereign store of value" narrative becomes. The Strait of Hormuz sees 20 million barrels of oil daily — when the world can’t even secure energy routes, the private key in your hand might be the safest thing.
Watch two key dates:
Tuesday — Trump meets Gulf leaders at the UN to discuss next military steps on Iran. Any escalation signals will trigger synchronized reactions in oil and crypto markets.
Wednesday — Iranian President Raeisi delivers a speech at the UN. Note: Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will also attend at the end of September.
Enemies at the same table — how do you think this play will unfold?
Three scenarios, match yourself:
Scenario A (Trump decides not to escalate): BTC recovers to 80,000-85,000. But don’t celebrate too soon; Coinglass data shows short liquidation intensity above 85,000 is $1.235 billion — meaning there are stop-loss orders for shorts above, and a short squeeze could happen anytime.
Scenario B (Conflict continues but is controllable): BTC oscillates between 76,000-80,000. This is the most uncomfortable zone — Fear & Greed Index at 71 (greedy), but BTC ETFs saw a net outflow of 3,617 coins over 7 days. The greedy are still buying, smart money is quietly exiting.
Scenario C (Escalation/oil price out of control): BTC tests 72,000 or even 70,000. Coinglass data shows that below 77,600, cumulative long liquidation intensity on major exchanges reaches $1.349 billion.
$1.349 billion. One bearish candle could trigger an explosion.
Don’t bet on direction at this point.
Geopolitical events price in very fast but have poor sustainability. Better to miss the first green candle than be buried by the first red one.
