OKX is pleased to introduce OKX Shield, a voluntary, discretionary goodwill programme that may reimburse eligible users for losses in their OKX Exchange accounts caused by third-party account takeover (ATO) incidents. OKX Shield adds another layer of protection to OKX's existing account-security and risk-control measures. It is not insurance, an investor compensation scheme, a deposit guarantee scheme, or an unconditional promise to reimburse a loss. Participation, eligibility, reimbursement limits, and claim outcomes are subject to the applicable OKX Shield Terms and Conditions. OKX Shield is initially available to eligible identity-verified users onboarded with OKX Europe Limited or OKX Europe Markets Limited.

What OKX Shield offers

  • Account takeover reimbursement: Eligible losses caused by unauthorised third-party control of an OKX Exchange account may be considered for reimbursement.

  • Tier-based limits: For the EEA launch phase, the maximum reimbursement limit is up to €100,000 for regular users, up to €250,000 for VIP 1–3 users, and up to €500,000 for VIP 4–6 users.

  • No additional charge: Eligible users can activate OKX Shield without an additional programme fee.

  • Ongoing security checks: Account eligibility, device health, and required security controls are checked before activation and on an ongoing basis to help users maintain protection.

  • Automatic restoration: If OKX Shield becomes inactive because a required condition is no longer met, it is restored automatically after the issue is resolved and all conditions are verified again.

OKX Shield is not a guarantee of payment. The actual outcome depends on OKX's review, the evidence available, the applicable limit, the Terms and Conditions, and whether any exclusion applies. Each person, based on KYC identity, may receive reimbursement for no more than one approved claim during their lifetime across all OKX entities (even if that claim is below the reimbursement limit).

How to activate OKX Shield

OKX Shield does not activate automatically. Eligible users must complete all six required actions:

  1. Pass the account-eligibility check.

  2. Pass the device-health check for the current and linked devices.

  3. Enable Passkey.

  4. Enable Large Withdrawal Protection.

  5. Enable Web Withdrawal Protection.

  6. Set up MFA for all supported activities.

After completing the checklist, review and accept the applicable Terms and Conditions, then select Activate OKX Shield.
